These were the books given to me by my father. It was an introduction to epic adventures that I appreciate to this day. Below are the titles that I cut my teeth on and are my favorite, by far. Since these titles were released, Cussler has written many more books with other heroes; however, Dirk Pitt will always remain my favorite.
Once I'd finished reading a lot of books by Cussler, my father handed me Pet Sematary by Stephen King. Again, he wanted me to broaden my reading horizons; however, I wasn't quite ready for that level of horror, so I found someone different -- Dean Koontz. Some of his books are more macabre than others, but these were always my favorite.
I'd stepped away from reading romance, because I was tired of the same uninspired stories repeated continually. Many romance writers had given the genre a "trashy" reputation that angers me to this day. And then someone recommended Diana Gabaldon to me. So I picked up Outlander and was immediately enthralled. She weaves, brilliantly, romance with history. Each story builds upon the other, so you can't just read the one. These books are, of course, being produced into a television series. Bravo!
